Wednesday Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix
Hit Netflix TV Series ‘Wednesday’ has officially been renewed for a second season at the streamer. A spin-off from The Addams Family, the show starred Jenna Ortega in the title role.
The announcement comes after it was speculated the series would move to Amazon Prime Video. This is due to the production company behind the hit series, MGM, recently acquired by Amazon. But it appears Wednesday will officially remain at Netflix for the foreseeable future. No surprise really given the Amazon-MGM acquisition happened a long time after the series started development.
Produced and Directed by Tim Burton, the series became a viral sensation on social media, sparked by Jenna Ortega’s striking dance moves. Wednesday became the second most-watched show in Netflix’s history, just behind Stranger Things. Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer series ranks as the streamer’s No. 3 most-watched series of all time.
In the first week, it had over 341.23 million hours viewed; in its second, 411.29 million hours viewed. In terms of social stats, #WednesdayAddams is a star on TikTok, with over 22 billion views.
Showrunners, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, have already begun development on the second season, scouting potential shooting locations. They said “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world… We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
Wednesday Season One is available to stream on Netflix.
