‘Star Trek: Picard’ Filming Stops As 50 Crew Test Positive for COVID

Production on the popular Star Trek spin-off TV Series, focusing on Jean-Luc Picard, has been halted. The Hollywood Reporter reported that more than 50 members of the production tested positive on Monday, as Omicron Coronavirus cases surge. Over 450 people work on the show, making it one of the largest TV productions.

The Patrick Stewart-led series films in Los Angeles, a hotspot for Coronavirus, with 26,754 cases reported on Wednesday alone. Following a critically successful first season, Picard has been renewed for Seasons 2 & 3, which are shooting back-to-back.

Sources say that production will resume next week following filming shutting down immediately on Monday. Picard Season 2 is set to debut later this year or early 2023. The Series streams on Paramount+ in the US and Amazon Prime Video in the UK.

Jean-Luc Picard first appeared on screen, played by Patrick Stewart, in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The show was popular and successful with over 30 million viewers watching the Series Finale in 1994. Picard became a fan-favourite character, and calls for his very own TV series were answered with Star Trek: Picard premiering back in 2020.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 is streaming now on Amazon Prime (UK) and Paramount+ (US).
